Music Theory II – Through Songwriting and Composition builds on foundational music theory concepts to explore more advanced harmonic, melodic, and formal techniques, all through the lens of creative musical application. Students will deepen their understanding of diatonic harmony, nonchord tones, contrapuntal voice leading, seventh chords, secondary functions, modulation, and large-scale musical forms. Emphasis is placed on real-world application through songwriting and composition, allowing students to internalize theoretical principles by crafting original music and analyzing existing works. The course blends part-writing, analytical exercises, and creative projects to foster both technical fluency and artistic intent.
