This English-speaking seminar deals with the history of socio-material “assemblages” in the modern period and their relation to issues of power and governance. Along with theoretical and methodological questions, we will discuss case-studies and approach central issues in the history of technology and infrastructure in combination with cultural and social history. We will deal with different forms of political participation and protest and the role they played in the shaping of national and transnational, local and global processes.

Students are expected to actively participate in the seminar, read and understand the texts, prepare three questions for each session, and present their paper project during one thematic session (this includes writing an abstract beforehand and autonomously searching for as well as analyzing historical sources).

Please note that this seminar is conceived for both BA and international MA students.
Therefore, it will begin in the first week of November (Wednesday, November 4) and it will take place also (but, probably, not only) in a digital format.
