In this course, you will learn how companies turn uncertain ideas into innovations that create real value. Rather than only discussing innovation and creativity in theory, you will work in teams on a semester-long Innovation Challenge, moving from problem discovery and idea generation to prototyping, experimentation, business models, and implementation. You will use methods such as Design Thinking, creativity techniques, agile approaches, Toyota Kata, LEGO Serious Play, rapid prototyping, and AI-supported ideation. Along the way, we will explore how organizations balance exploration and exploitation, how innovation units differ from established business units, and how approaches such as Open Innovation, Corporate Entrepreneurship, Venture Clienting, and Cross Innovation work in practice. Guest speakers from the innovation ecosystem will provide first-hand insights into how innovation is actually organized and implemented in companies. By the end of the course, you should not only know innovation management concepts, but be able to identify opportunities, develop and test ideas, learn from evidence, and build a convincing path from idea to implementation.
