The construction of dams is one of the earliest and most fundamental activities in civil engineering.

In this module, students gain in-depth knowledge of the design of hydraulic components for dams and other hydraulic structures.

They develop the ability to select the most suitable hydraulic elements based on the conditions given by, for example, the landscape, the prevailing (German) standards or the location.

Acquisition of suitable methodological skills for the design of various hydraulic structures, such as retention basins, spillways or dissipation basins.

In-depth knowledge of the necessary hydraulic methods.

Weighing up the advantages and disadvantages of experimental and numerical modelling approaches, e.g. with regard to scaling laws, discharge laws or applicability.
