Rather than just looking at the concept of the Metaverse only from a theoretical point of view, we want to conceptualize, develop and evaluate explicitly gamified or playful applications in the course, which pursue the notion of a real-world Metaverse and thus rely on an augmented reality layer placed over the physical environment.
To develop a reasonable application, design potentials (design spaces) of existing approaches will first be elaborated and clustered through joint market, media, and literature analyses. The analyses are followed by the ideation phase that takes place on an individual or group level. Subsequently, the implementation takes place prototypically through extensive click prototypes, video prototypes, or functional mobile applications (e.g.: Unity). The project is rounded off by a subsequent small qualitative-empirical evaluation study, in which Wizard-of-Oz and/or Thinking Aloud can be applied.
The project work can be done individually or in a group. The course is expected to be held on-site at the university (US-D 109).
