Introductory lecture on the basic theory of modern quantum optics and cavity quantum electrodynamics.
The lecture goal is to cover the following topics:

  • Classical and quantum states of light
  • Coupling of atoms and light
  • The Rabi model & spontaneous emission
  • Optical cavities & quantum optical master equation
  • The Jaynes-Cummings model & basic cavity QED
  • Fundamentals of lasing
  • Mechanical effect of light & basic cavity optomechanics
