The term "metaverse" has generated a lot of hype in recent months. At the same time, the term is often not clearly defined by different companies and individuals. The course will first provide a general insight into the different components of the metaverse construct before the students can independently investigate certain elements (e.g.: “The Design and Effect of Avatars for the Metaverse”, “ Virtual Economies and Implications for the Metaverse”, “Requirements and Opportunities for Computer Vision for the Metaverse”,...) concerning current literature and trends within their seminar thesis and thus explore which research gaps, opportunities, and risks arise within a Metaverse-like construct.

The seminar course is based around the paper by Lee et al, 2021 "All One Needs to Know about Metaverse: A Complete Survey on Technological Singularity, Virtual Ecosystem, and Research Agenda." Students do not need to have read the paper beforehand because its content will be covered and discussed as part of initial introductory courses.

Note on the current pandemic situation:
As it currently stands, the course is to be taught on-site (US-C 103). If this is not possible, registered students will be informed in advance via Unisono.
