Did
you know that wombats make great neighbours? Did you know that England didn’t
just send its criminals to Australia, but orphans and the children of the poor
sometimes as well? During this compact course we will engage with children’s
literature and media from colonial and contemporary Australia. Texts will range
from classics like “Snuggle Pot and Cuddle Pie” to the recent popular
children’s TV show “Bluey”. Using these texts, we will explore concepts like
‘childhood’, ‘nation’, and ‘space’.
