This seminar focuses on the first few chapters of Käte Hamburger's /The Logic of Literature/ as well as more formal approaches to narrative fiction – for instance, game theory models such as those presented by Michael Suk-Young Chwe in his /Jane Austen, Game Theorist/. We will read several fictional and nonfictional narrative texts alongside theoretical ones. While no knowledge of formal logic beyond High School/"Abitur" level mathematics is required, participants must be curious to experiment with the syntax and semantics of formal languages. Before the beginning of the semester, participants must download, print out, and read at least p. 5-36 of /forallx: An Introduction to Formal Logic/ by P.D. Magnus.
