In this course, we will read popular music as a cultural expression. In the first part of the seminar, we will look at the history of popular music and we will wrestle with more theoretical questions, such as "What is culture?", "What is a text?", "What is our specific reading of a particular song?". Building upon this knowledge we will deal with specific theories of popular culture and we will read songs and videos of artists like David Bowie, Kanye West, Nirvana, Metallica, or Rammstein.
